Frequently Asked Questions

Ashiatsu Massage

  • Ashiatsu Deep Tissue Massage is a unique form of bodywork where the therapist applies deep compression using their bare feet. Unlike traditional massage, which primarily uses hands, elbows, or forearms, Ashiatsu involves the use of gravity and body weight to deliver sustained pressure that penetrates deeper into muscle tissues. The therapist balances themselves using overhead bars for control and precision, allowing for smooth and even pressure.

This technique is especially effective for individuals seeking relief from chronic pain or tension, particularly in the hips, back, neck, and shoulders. The broad surface of the feet enables the therapist to cover larger muscle groups, delivering a deeper, more therapeutic experience without the discomfort that sometimes accompanies other deep tissue techniques.

    Benefits of Ashiatsu Massage:

    • Deep Muscle Relief: The consistent, deep pressure provided by the therapist’s feet helps alleviate tension in the body’s largest muscles, including the back and legs.

    • Improved Lymphatic Drainage: The slow, rhythmic strokes of Ashiatsu massage stimulate the body’s lymphatic system, aiding in detoxification and the removal of metabolic waste from the muscles.

    • Spinal Decompression: Ashiatsu is particularly effective in elongating the spine, which can improve overall spinal health.

    • Enhanced Flexibility: Regular Ashiatsu sessions can increase muscle flexibility, which is beneficial for athletes, individuals recovering from injuries, or those experiencing tightness due to prolonged sitting or standing.

This form of massage is ideal for clients who prefer deeper pressure, especially those with chronic pain, athletes, or individuals with larger body types who may not experience the full benefit of traditional deep tissue massage.

  • Yes, Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage is safe when performed by a trained and certified therapist. Rachel, the massage therapist at Arvada Massage and Stretch, has over 750 hours of specialized training in Ashiatsu and other therapeutic modalities, ensuring that each session is customized for the client's comfort and needs.

During an Ashiatsu massage session, the therapist uses overhead bars to carefully control the pressure applied, allowing for a deeper but safe form of deep tissue massage. This technique ensures that even though the pressure is significant, it is evenly distributed, avoiding the sharp discomfort often associated with traditional deep tissue massage.

Ashiatsu can be adjusted to accommodate different pain thresholds and sensitivities, making it suitable for a wide range of clients.

However, Ashiatsu may not be the best option for everyone. Clients with certain conditions such as:

    • Spinal Disc Issues

    • Osteoporosis

    • Varicose Veins

If any of these conditions apply to you, Rachel offers alternative treatments like manual therapeutic massage. This allows for a gentler, yet effective, approach that can still target muscle tension and pain relief without the intensity of Ashiatsu.

By offering manual massage options, clients with contraindications can still experience relief from pain and discomfort in a way that is safe for their individual needs.

  • Before each session, the therapist thoroughly cleans and softens their feet to ensure hygiene and client comfort. This involves washing and sanitizing the feet before each massage. Proper exfoliating procedures are followed to prevent rough or dry skin. The therapist also maintains trimmed and well-groomed toenails. This attention to foot care helps provide a smooth and seamless massage experience.

  • No, at Arvada Massage & Stretch, you can choose a variety of massage techniques that don’t involve Ashiatsu or the use of feet. While Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage is a popular choice for those seeking deep tissue pressure, we offer several other therapeutic options tailored to your comfort level and personal preferences. Rachel, our certified therapist, can provide manual massages that focus on relaxation, pain relief, or specific muscle groups without using feet.

For clients who prefer traditional massage methods, we offer techniques such as:

    • Therapeutic Massage: Using hands, forearms, and elbows, this type of massage can help reduce tension, alleviate chronic pain, and promote relaxation.

    • Fascial Stretch Therapy: A gentle, hands-on assisted stretch to increase flexibility and mobility.

    • Customized Massage: We can tailor a session using a combination of manual massage, cupping, or CBD lotion, based on your needs and preferences.

Whether you're looking for deep muscle relief or a more soothing experience, our services can be customized to ensure you get the right treatment.

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST)

  • Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a unique, assisted stretching technique designed to increase range of motion, improve flexibility, and help prevent injuries. Unlike typical self-stretching exercises that primarily target muscles, FST focuses on stretching the fascia—connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, and joints—and the joint capsules themselves. This holistic approach helps reduce stiffness, alleviate tension, and enhance overall mobility.

During an FST session, you will lie comfortably on a massage table while wearing loose-fitting clothing such as gym shorts or yoga pants. Your therapist will gently guide your limbs through various movements using traction to decompress the joints and stretch different fascial lines throughout your body. The therapist's use of gentle, rhythmic movements ensures a safe, pain-free stretch that increases flexibility while minimizing the risk of strain or injury.

FST is ideal for anyone looking to:

    • Improve Athletic Performance: FST can enhance movements like your golf swing, tennis serve, or running stride by improving joint mobility and flexibility.

    • Speed Up Recovery: Regular FST sessions can help reduce muscle soreness and accelerate recovery from workouts or injuries.

    • Prevent Injuries: By keeping your fascia and joints flexible, FST can help reduce the risk of injuries caused by tightness or limited mobility.

This gentle, yet effective, therapy can benefit athletes, those recovering from injury, and individuals seeking improved flexibility for daily activities. It’s a highly personalized approach that helps unlock your body's full potential.
